The kettle clicks off.

You pour your tea, wrap your hands around the warm cup, and pause for a moment.
The window is open just enough for a cool autumn breeze to drift in.. The air feels different.. crisp, quiet, softer somehow. Outside, the day is beginning, but for these few seconds, there is nowhere else to be..
And I know.
Autumn is coming.
It always seems to arrive just after my birthday, not with a dramatic change, but in these tiny things you almost miss.. softer mornings, earlier sunsets, cooler floors under your feet, and that sudden urge to make a cup of tea and stay home a little longer.
No pumpkins or orangy stuffs everywhere. No elaborate autumn makeover.
Just the season quietly changing the way an ordinary day feels..
I’m not planning an elaborate autumn makeover or turning into someone who wakes up at 4:30 a.m. to journal beside a perfectly arranged pumpkin.. or whatever..
I’m just doing a small autumn reset.
Real life is still happening here .. school at 7:30, a pre-teen, gym, laundry that apparently reproduces overnight and the usual household chaos. So these are the autumn slow living habits I’m actually going to try..
1. Wake Up a Little Earlier
I’m waking up at 5 a.m. this autumn.
But please don’t take that as an instruction. Wake up at your own sweet time.. just try getting up a little earlier than your usual time.
For me, those extra minutes mean sitting quietly before the school-day madness begins. Fifteen minutes of peace before I hear the first “Mammmmaaaa !!!”
Honestly, that little pause feels like luxury.
2. Take the Longer Route to the Gym

In summer, I take the quickest route to the gym because it’s hot and I have no interest in sightseeing while melting🙄
Autumn is different.
I actually enjoy taking a different, slightly longer route. The same streets suddenly look different when the air is cooler and the trees start changing.
Sometimes the journey is part of the workout.
3. Stop Filling Every Quiet Moment
I’m trying to leave some silence alone.
No phone. No scrolling. No immediately finding something to clean, organise or accomplish.
Just sitting.
It sounds ridiculously simple until you realise how rarely we actually do it.
4. Read Before Bed
Autumn evenings make me want to pick up a book instead of endlessly scrolling.
I’m keeping this very achievable: a few pages before bed.
Not 50 pages. Not “finish a book every week.”
Even five pages count.
5. Walk Without Calling It Exercise

One of my favourite slow living ideas for autumn is simply going for a walk without giving it a job.
No calorie target. No step competition. No “I must burn X calories.”
Just walking.
Cooler air, changing leaves, quieter streets and that lovely feeling of being outside without being in a hurry..
6. Bring Autumn Into the House

I don’t need to buy an entirely new autumn personality.
I can open the windows on a crisp morning, bring in a few branches or flowers, change the bedding, move things around and let the changing light do most of the decorating..
And yes, I’ll still light my candles because apparently I have a reputation to maintain.
7. Move My Body Without Punishing It

I’m still going to the gym, but I’m changing the way I think about exercise.
I want to feel stronger, healthier and more energetic .. not like I’m being punished for eating dinner.
Some days will be proper workouts. Some days will be walking. Some days will be less.
That still counts.
8. Make Little Pockets of Quiet

There are always phones, messages, television, SCHOOL, chores and someone asking where something is.
So I’m deliberately creating little pockets where none of it gets my attention.
Even 20 quiet minutes can make the whole day feel different.
9. Do a Small Sunday Reset

I want Sundays to help my week, not become another day of chores.
I’ll look at the week ahead, organise a few things, think about meals and decide what actually needs doing.
Then I’m stopping.
A reset should make life lighter.. not steal your Sunday.
10. Notice the Ordinary Stuff

This might be my biggest autumn self-care habit.
Notice the first morning that feels properly cool.
The changing light at 6 p.m.
Leaves under my shoes.
The first evening when I don’t need the air conditioning..
The smell of something cooking.
A quiet house.
These are tiny things, but most of life happens in tiny things we are too busy to notice.
My Autumn Reset

I’m not trying to become a completely different person this autumn.
I just want to be a little more present in my own life.
Move more. Read more. Walk more. Rest properly. Spend less time rushing.
Because autumn slow living, for me, isn’t about creating a perfect, picturesque life.
It’s about actually being there for the real one.
Even when there’s laundry.
Even when the school morning is chaos.
Even when dinner is very much not Instagram-worthy.
Even when I’ve walked into the kitchen and forgotten why.
Especially then.
Autumn doesn’t need to be perfect.
It just needs to be noticed.
Here’s to slower days, softer moments,
and finding magic in the everyday.
