Slow Living Autumn Guide: The Ultimate Cozy October To-Do List

By

October always makes me look at my home a little differently..
Not because I suddenly want to redecorate everything or fill every corner with autumn decorations.. infact it’s quite the opposite..  actually !!! I find myself wanting to clear a few things away, move a lamp here, change a cushion there, bring out a warmer blanket and make the house feel a little more comfortable for the evenings ahead..

I don’t want to turn my home into an autumn showroom or spend a fortune decorating it. I just want it to feel cosy and lived-in..

So…

Grab a warm mug of tea, dim the harsh overhead lights, and let’s dive into your ultimate October guide for a healthy, mindful, and cozy fall aesthetic.

1. Curate a Cozy Fall Aesthetic with Warm Home Lighting

Embracing a slow living autumn lifestyle starts at home.. The lighting in your environment deeply impacts your nervous system. Transitioning your space into a calming place requires moving away from clinical brightness ( hospital lights as l say ) and focusing on a warm, earthy ambiance.. 🥰

Layer Warm Fall Home Lighting

Turn off the harsh overhead lights. Instead, opt for table lamps with pleated linen, woven rattan, or paper shades. Pop in warm-toned LED bulbs to cast a soft, golden radiance across the room.

Cluster Earthy Candle Arrangements

Gather candles in amber glass jars or rustic ceramic vessels.. or from your nearby shops .. Cluster them in odd numbers on your coffee table or kitchen counter to create a flicking beautiful vibe

Bring the Outside In

Complement the amber glow by dressing your surfaces with the natural colors of the earth.. Decorate with dark wood trays, terracotta pots, and vases filled with dried amber florals..

2. Fuel Your Body with Healthy Autumn Recipes

A healthy lifestyle during the colder months isn’t about restrictive diets.. or over indulgence of fatty foods😂

it’s about eating grounding, nutrient dense whole foods. These healthy autumn recipes support your gut, boost seasonal immunity, and keep your energy steady as the temperatures drop.

The Autumn Harvest Nourish Bowl

Roast a batch of cubed sweet potatoes, spiced chickpeas, and Brussels sprouts.. Serve them warm over a bed of fluffy quinoa or rice, then drizzle with dressing for a perfect balance of protein and healthy fats.

Slow-Simmered Lentil & Pumpkin Stew

Simmer brown lentils, diced pumpkin, carrots, and kale or whatvr green veggies in a savory vegetable broth. Season heavily with turmeric, cumin, and a splash of coconut milk for a rich, comforting, high fiber dinner.

Warm Cinnamon Berry Compote

Stew antioxidant rich mixed berries with a splash of water, vanilla, and plenty of metabolism boosting cinnamon ( something am not a fan of.. so you can opt out) on low heat until juicy. Spoon it hot over morning oats or chia seed pudding for a nourishing breakfast.

3. Connect Outdoors with Mindful Walking Rituals

Getting healthy doesn’t have to mean intense, high-stress workouts. Engaging in gentle, low-impact cardio outdoors is one of the easiest ways to support your physical well-being. Mindful walking benefits range from lowering cortisol levels to naturally boosting your mood.

The “Five Senses” Nature Walk

Head out to a local park or garden or trail without your headphones. Ground yourself in the present moment by identifying five things you can see, four things you can physically touch (like cool tree bark), three things you hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you are grateful for.

Silent Interval Strolling

Practice an active walking meditation.. Alternate between three minutes of brisk walking to gently elevate your heart rate and stimulate cardiovascular health, and two minutes of slow, intentional steps. (Full disclosure: as someone who loves a good treadmill elevation session, this outdoor stillness took me a little getting used to, but the mental clarity is entirely worth it!)

Golden Hour Outdoor Stretching

Find a sunlit patch of grass or a clear path during the late afternoon. Spend ten minutes doing gentle neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, and deep side stretches, inhaling the crisp autumn air to release any physical tension built up during the day.. incase you want to go through my old October To-do List .. take a peek ⤵️

Consider this your official invitation to do less.

October is proof that change can be beautiful and that slowing down is its own kind of power. So.. step away from the screen, light your favorite candle, and let yourself just be.. You’ve built your cozy so go and enjoy it !!

Until next time, keep it slow and stay cozy,
Dolly

Even when you talk about simple, familiar things, I never feel like skipping them because you make them feel fresh and personal.

I feel like some parts may be a little repetitive, but honestly, I love the way you write. Your posts have become such a comfort read for me. There’s something so familiar and cosy about coming here and reading your words. I hope you keep writing, sharing those little everyday moments, and repeating the things that make us feel happy and at home. Sometimes, we actually need those gentle reminders.

I really like how practical this is. The reminder that slow living doesn’t have to mean doing more, but simply making ordinary October days feel a little calmer, really resonated with me. I’m definitely taking the idea of slowing down, enjoying the little home rituals and not trying to make everything perfect.Every week you remind me orels l would have forgotten to slow down.

And I have to say, the five-senses walk is such a lovely idea. I can imagine doing that on one of those cooler October evenings when the air feels different and everything seems a little quieter. This post genuinely made me want to slow down, tidy one little corner of my home, make a proper cup of tea and enjoy October instead of rushing through it.

I really enjoyed reading this because it doesn’t make October feel like something we have to completely transform our homes or our lives for. I actually loved the part about not wanting to turn your home into an “autumn showroom” and just wanting it to feel cosy and lived-in. That is exactly how I feel too. Sometimes moving a lamp, putting out a warmer blanket, changing the lighting in the evening and having a cup of tea is more than enough.

Such a cosy, realistic October reminder, Dolly. 🍂☕️ I’m definitely taking the “do less” invitation with me this month.
