The BER months are here, and honestly.. My soul is thriving. My birthday is wrapped up on 31st August, and as always, September feels like the soft opening act of my favourite season.. Warm days, cooler evenings, and that delicious in-between space where life slows down.
This year, I’ve even made small changes at home.. like replacing some fairy lights with a new warm-glow table lamp that’s arriving any day now. Don’t get me wrong, I still love fairy lights (they’re magical), but lately in my bedroom they’ve felt a little too girlish.. Maybe it’s me stepping into my 40s, maybe it’s simply taste evolving, but I’ve realised I want my space to feel calm, warm, and a touch more grown-up. Not discarding my fairy lights, though.. they’ll always have my heart. I just think of it as layering: a little sparkle, a little sophistication.
Here’s what my September looks like, in the spirit of slow living:

🌿 1. Stop Trying to Do Everything
Here’s a radical idea: you don’t need to tick off every “Autumn bucket list” that the internet shoves at you. Life is already full.. work, kids, responsibilities. Adding 200 new seasonal tasks isn’t slow living, it’s madness. The truth? The best bits of Autumn cost nothing: cooler air, golden sunsets, that first evening when you think, “Ah, I might need a blanket.”

🕯️ 2. Give Your Home That Autumn Glow
No need for overpriced décor hauls. Step outside, collect a branch, some acorns, or a handful of crisp leaves, and let nature style your vase. Layer blankets, plump the cushions, and please.. light a candle. A single flicker can make a Tuesday night feel like poetry.

🚶♀️ 3. Step Outside and Notice
September begs for walks. The light changes this month. Shadows grow longer, mornings stretch slower. Even if it’s still warm, you’ll notice the shift if you look closely. A short daily walk is enough.. no headphones, just you noticing what’s around.

🍎 4. Cook Food That Smells Like Comfort
This is the season to lean into meals that are both grounding and light. Think roasted vegetables, simple pasta tossed with olive oil and herbs, warm grain bowls, or an easy ratatouille..

🧣5. Refresh Your Wardrobe Lightly
It may not be knitwear weather yet, but you can still shift the mood. Softer colours, breathable layers, maybe a new scarf or wrap for evenings. Small swaps that make you feel in tune with the season without overheating.

🪞 6. Reflect Without Being Dramatic Infact with Intention
September is a natural reset. Ask yourself: what’s worth carrying into the last months of the year, and what can be left behind? It doesn’t need to be a grand ritual.. just a quiet moment of clarity.
September isn’t about rushing into change. It’s about noticing it. The glow of a new lamp, the comfort of a meal, the softness of an evening breeze. The BER months remind us that time moves, but we don’t always have to. Sometimes it’s enough to slow down, breathe, and enjoy what’s already here.
With warmth, light, and a little bit of sparkle ✨🍂🕯️
Love, Dolly 🌸💛
