1. The Parent Trap (1998)

Why It’s a Must-Watch:

Lindsay Lohan’s double trouble as Hallie and Annie is pure 90s gold. I remember making my sister watch the movie and it’s still one of my favourite childhood movie, anyways their cheeky pranks and the feel-good summer camp vibes make this one of the most iconic family films of all time. That timeless song “L-O-V-E”? It’s still stuck in my head after 25 years.. and even made it into one of my Instagram reels!

Why You’ll Love It:

• Perfect for a family night in, packed with mischievous fun and heartfelt moments.

2. Home Alone (1990 & 1992)

(best Christmas family movies, funny holiday films, classic 90s comedies.)

Why It’s a Must-Watch:

Okay, confession time.. I didn’t really get the hype as a kid. But my son? Obsessed. He can rewatch Kevin’s mischief forever and even told me to leave him home alone once. (I locked the doors instead.) Kevin McCallister’s legendary booby traps, hilarious antics, and heartfelt family reunions make this a Christmas classic. Watching my son giggle uncontrollably at Kevin’s wild tricks was worth every second (even if he did ask to be left home alone himself).

Why You’ll Love It:

• Laugh-out-loud moments for the kids, nostalgia for the adults.

• Perfect for getting into the festive spirit, anytime.

Downside:

Your kids might take notes and start leaving Lego minefields around the house.

3. Wonder (2017)

(inspiring family movies, heartwarming films, movies about kindness)

Why It’s a Must-Watch:

Watching it with my son was a bonding moment.. I teared up (as you do), and he got super invested in Auggie’s journey. It’s uplifting, inspiring, and a gentle reminder to be kind

Auggie’s journey is an emotional rollercoaster that tugs at every heartstring. It’s a story of kindness, acceptance, and resilience that I had to share with my son. Yes, I ugly cried, and no, I don’t regret it.

Why You’ll Love It:

• A beautiful blend of emotions that’s perfect for family discussions.

Teaches empathy and understanding in the most touching way.

4. Yes Day (2021)

(modern family comedies, laugh-out-loud movies, fun parenting films)

Why It’s a Must-Watch:

The premise is chaos: parents say “yes” to everything their kids want for 24 hours. Watching this gave me heart palpitations and plenty of laughs. Spoiler: My son demanded his own Yes Day. Spoiler to the spoiler: Never again.

Why You’ll Love It:

5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) & Wonka (2023)

(chocolate movies, family-friendly adventures, whimsical films.)

Why It’s a Must-Watch:

Johnny Depp’s quirky portrayal of Willy Wonka has always been a conversation starter. Love it or not, it’s undeniably magical. I still remember how I used to weave stories about the chocolate river and fondant delights from this movie as bedtime tales for my niece Trisha. Fast forward.. she’s 18 now, and that’s what makes it a true classic!

And then there’s the latest Wonka with Timothée Chalamet.. what a fresh, whimsical twist on an old favorite. It’s a charming prequel that dives into the origins of Willy Wonka with a blend of fun and heart. Watching both movies as a family (wrapped in cozy blankets, of course) turned an ordinary evening into a delightful movie marathon.

Julie Andrews is an absolute queen, and the original Mary Poppins is pure cinematic magic. The sequel has its charm too, even if my son called it “too girly.” (His loss.) My husband loved it and watching with him is Always a treat and it reminds me back how we both were happy that we love Brit’s sense of humour & sarcasm.

Funny how Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan, Christina Ricci, Anna Chlumsky, Drew Barrymore, and Haley Joel Osment were basically the “kids we grew up with” on screen.
