🌿Slow Down Sundays: 5 Rituals to Reset Your Mind and Soul

By

Autumn’s just around the corner.. well, if you count “still sweating in August” as around the corner… 🙈 Soon it’ll be cooler mornings, warmer drinks, and that calm, fresh feeling we’ve been promised .. infact something enchanting about dark clouds gathering overhead, the crisp air on our rosy cheeks, while we’re warmly wrapped in our favourite sweaters and jackets ..

Can’t imagine the feels as good as coming home after a cold walk to the warmth and cosiness of our four walls. Kettle on, candle lit and sitting in our book in hand or perhaps a film to watch. I find such joy in dressing my home for this season..

And that’s exactly what slow living invites us to rediscover… especially on Sundays.

Why Saturdays or Sundays Need a Rebrand

Let’s be honest.. Sundays used to feel sacred. A little quieter, a little slower, a little more soulful.

Now? They’ve become chaotic extensions of the weekday hustle.

Laundry 🧺, meal prep, catching up on everything you didn’t tick off Monday through Saturday.

Whether you’re a parent chasing a routine, a single soul in a studio flat, or someone navigating the quieter season of life.. Sundays should feel like a breath, not a backlog.

Let’s bring back the sacred.

Let’s revive the rhythm. 🎶

🕰️ 1. Ditch the To-Do List. Embrace Rituals That Soothe 🫖

Here’s a rebellious idea:

Don’t use Sunday to get ahead. Use it to come home to yourself.

Try swapping stress for softness:

A slow breakfast with real mugs and no screens

A mini home reset: light a candle 🕯️, open the windows, play calming tunes Declare a “no chores after 3 PM” policy ~ yes, it’s a vibe and a boundary

Remember: it’s not about perfection. It’s about presence.

🌼 2. Your Sacred Hour: Be Still on Purpose

Modern life glorifies busy. Slow living whispers.. “You’re allowed to pause.”Carve out one hour.. just for you.

Parents: trade multitasking for silence while the kids play or nap

Singles: savour the stillness of not needing to explain your peace

Older souls: sit in your favourite chair and watch the light change 🌤️

No podcast. No scrolling. Just you + time + nothing urgent. Bliss.

🌿 3. Connect with Nature.. Even If It’s Just the Balcony 🌳

No need for rolling hills or garden gates.

Step outside. Notice the breeze. Listen to the birds. Water your plant. Touch a leaf 🍃.

Whether you’re in a city flat, farmhouse, or joint family mansion .. nature is a free reset button.

You’re not “wasting time.”

You’re syncing with something ancient and real.

🎬 4. Sunday Evenings: Movie, Munchies & No Guilt Whatsoever 🍿

Here’s your Sunday evening formula:

One film + one easy dinner = one very happy human.

Movie night should be mandatory, honestly.

Thrillers? Yes.

Soppy dramas? Eeew !! But I don’t judge 🙈

Old-school romcoms? Pass the tissues.

Watch solo, with your child, partner, grandparents, flatmates.. or on FaceTime with a friend halfway across the world 🌍.

And food?

Make it easy. Make it cosy. Make it law.

Order your favourite takeaway 🍕 Leftovers served on a fancy plate (instant mood) Toast and jam with a side of zero guilt Or let your child pick dinner.. even if it’s frozen fries and ketchup

Sunday dinner should be protected by law.. simple, soft, and stress-free.

🏡 5. Slow Living in a Full House: Sacred Moments in Shared Spaces

Living with extended family or in a joint household? You’re not alone.. and you’re not excluded from slow living. 🫶

Here’s how to carve out little oases of peace:

Create micro-rituals just for you: 10 minutes of tea, soft music, a short walk Invite others in: a family movie, Sunday tea without phones, a sunset sit together Find your hour: early morning before the house wakes, or late evening after the dishes are done

In a full house, slow living isn’t about silence.

It’s about intention and finding stillness inside the sound.

🌙 6. Make It Sacred, Not Perfect

You don’t need glowing skin, perfect playlists, or aesthetic everything to live slowly.

Let the house look lived-in. Let the dinner be leftovers. Let the socks be mismatched.

Because guess what?

Sacred doesn’t mean styled.

It means set apart..from the noise, the rush, and the pressure to perform.

So whether your Sunday includes:

A toddler hanging off your hip.. A delivery meal and a moody Netflix film.. A peaceful garden moment alone.. Or a sofa full of family debating which movie to watch…

Let it be slow. Let it be real. Let it be yours.

From my cosy corner to yours 🕯️☕🍂

Sounds great for Europeans, ‘cause, well, you’ve got that perfect weather vibe, you stroll around, take your sweet time. But here in America? We live in cars. Even a ten-year-old can drive here, no kidding. So if you’re telling me people here are gonna slow-down solo in their cars?

Please. I’m not exaggerating. Doesn’t compute.I was vibing with your walking idea from day one that’s dope. But the “just drive, sip tea or coffee in your ride” moment? Nah, that’s a stretch.

Sundays really are made for slowing down. One thing I’d add is to prepare your space the evening before. A quick tidy-up, fresh bedding, and laying out your favourite book or cosy jumper can make Sunday mornings feel far more indulgent.

Dolly, this is just what I needed to read! Sundays should be all about taking it easy no stress, just a nice cuppa and some quiet time. Sometimes we forget how important it is to slow down and just be.

Thanks for the lovely reminder. Here’s to more slow Sundays and cozy vibes
