Twist, Lie, Repeat: 10 Luxe Thriller Books with Jaw-Dropping Endings

By

After finishing We Were Liars and One of Us Is Lying series, I was left in that beautiful post-book daze .. you know the one.

When your heart’s still thudding, the twist is still sinking in, and your brain is already whispering: more like this, please.

So, I started digging.

I wanted books with rich families and messy secrets, murder in mansions, and plots that feel like velvet until they suddenly bleed. And as I tumbled down the rabbit hole of luxury thrillers and psychological page-turners, I found myself falling back in love with something else, too: my Kindle.

📱 Not that I’ve given up physical books .. I’ve got a stack waiting by my bed for late nights when I want the feel of a real page.

But right now? I’m definitely on a Kindle high. It’s just so easy. One click and I’m lost in a twisty new world.

Maybe when winter hits and the blankets come out, I’ll go back to the crackle of a paperback.. because nothing beats reading under a soft lamp when the world goes quiet.

Lately, I’ve been reading The Housemaid on my Kindle app but sadly has to purchase the book as it was not fully availabl , bye mostly because I can’t sleep, and partly because that book is pure adrenaline wrapped in domestic chaos. Just when I think I’ve figured it out, BAM — another twist. Honestly, it’s not helping with the insomnia, but at least I’m wide-eyed for a reason. My poor heart and Kindle both need a breather.( am just starting and it’s trilogy so nothing about these books .. later I will )

For now though, here’s a list of thrillers that completely consumed me. A mix of books I’ve read (some on Kindle, some physical) and a few that are buzzing with hype .. even making their way to screen.

🏛️ 1. The Family Upstairs – Lisa Jewell

A London mansion. A legacy soaked in tragedy. And people who were never supposed to survive.

Libby inherits a house she’s never heard of — and uncovers a twisted past filled with cult control, murder, and someone who’s been waiting in the shadows.

📖 Kindle Read: Perfect for a foggy evening binge

💸 2. The Inheritance Games – Jennifer Lynn Barnes

📖 Kindle Read: All three books ready to devour

💄 3. Pretty Things – Janelle Brown

As Nina attempts to con a lonely influencer, both women begin unravelling. It’s beautiful, biting, and impossible to look away from.

🎬 Nicole Kidman producing Amazon series

💥 Twist Rating: 9.5/10

📖 Kindle Read: Long, lush, and impossible to put down

🕯️ 4. The Girls Are All So Nice Here – Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Two college girls. One secret. And a reunion they may not survive.

Toxic friendships, hidden guilt, and a slow drip of dread — this one’s for anyone who knows not all mean girls grow up.

💥 Twist Rating: 9/10

📖 Kindle Read: Dual timelines make it a smooth, chilling read

🎓 5. The Secret History – Donna Tartt

Murder at an elite college — told with such cold brilliance, you almost forgive them.

It’s not the twist you wait for. It’s the slow, sharp spiral into beautiful ruin.

💥 Twist Rating: 10/10

📖 Read in print: Worth curling up with on a rainy night

🩸 6. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – Holly Jackson

📖 Kindle Read: Read the full trilogy — it flies

🏝️ 7. The Cousins – Karen M. McManus

Three cousins. One rich grandmother. And a summer of lies.

Family dysfunction meets a mysterious invitation on a private island. And no one’s telling the whole truth.

🎬 TV adaptation in the works

💥 Twist Rating: 8/10

📖 Kindle Read: A breezy, dramatic one-sitting read

💍 8. The Push – Ashley Audrain

A mother knows her child is dangerous. No one believes her.

It’s a slow, psychological ache that builds into full-blown horror — the quiet, personal kind that wrecks you from the inside out.

🎬 TV series optioned

💥 Twist Rating: 9.5/10

📖 Kindle Read: This one hit hard — read it in one late-night session

🌬️ 9. The Winters – Lisa Gabriele

She married into money. But his dead wife never left the house.

A modern, eerie reimagining of Rebecca filled with jealousy, mind games, and secrets behind every door.

💥 Twist Rating: 8/10

📖 Kindle Read: Gothic luxury and slow-building dread

🧠 10. Sadie – Courtney Summers

Told in podcast episodes and her own words — Sadie’s story isn’t over, even if she is.

Brilliantly structured, heartbreaking, and haunting long after it ends.

🎬 TV adaptation in development

💥 Twist Rating: 9.5/10

📖 Audiobook + Kindle combo = immersive, emotional wreckage

Books like these don’t just entertain — they grab you.

They’re dressed in beauty, dripping in secrets, and always hiding something dangerous just beneath the surface.

Right now, I’m living for the ease and speed of my Kindle — especially when I want a twist at midnight and don’t feel like turning on the lights.

But I know once winter arrives and the blankets get heavier, I’ll reach for my physical books again — something about the rustle of pages when the world is quiet hits differently.

Until then, I’m flipping digital pages and hunting for the next thrill.

P.S. If you love Jane Austen’s timeless novels 📚 and adore that sophisticated English charm 🇬🇧✨, I’ve written some lovely pieces about her books on my blog. Dive in through the link below! 🌸📖

Hi .. thou I am not great at reading books but I think many  people still enjoy the experience of reading physical books and also online platforms.  E-devices have made reading more interesting and also storage & handling easy. Physical books have great aesthetic appeal, harmony  &  syncs to Life Style of choice & fulfilment.

Your latest blog freshly does deep exploration of motivation & twists of engaging stories .

Thrillers are known for the  “edge-of-your-seat” experience be on SCREEN or  Grey letters , emotional engagement & the peak of the conflict rides you allowing readers to immerse themselves in a different world and relieve stress.

E-devices like Kindle are hi tech scientifically designed gadget for your Eyes,  having Grey with E-ink technology , making it very handy & little different from Tabs .

It was great reading your Blog !

I am looking forward for more great stories from your Esteemed 🖌️ !

Till then feel the Rush, Sensation & Excitement !! 🎢

Hello Dolly, For a wild ride, try The Banker’s Wife by Cristina Alger, where money disappears as fast as husbands, or The Partner by John Grisham, where 90 million vanishes and so does the man. For the more reality-bites crowd, Black Edge and Flash Crash offer true stories that read like spy fiction hedge funds, FBI, and all.

Right, I’m gonna say it — reading on a Kindle is just not it. I’ve tried, genuinely. But there’s something so… soulless about tapping a screen instead of turning a proper page. Where’s the crackly book spine? Where’s the old-paper smell that makes you feel like you’re about to uncover a secret?

You said you’ll start reading in winter — fair enough, sounds cosy. But don’t wait that long, love. Pop down to a proper bookshop, one of those charming little local ones where the owner still uses a pen and not a barcode scanner. Trust me, the moment you pick up a handpicked paperback, you’ll remember why we fell in love with books in the first place.

Kindles might be easy, but they’ve got the personality of soggy toast. Real books? They’ve got heart — and they never run out of battery halfway through a good bit.

Go on then, give the high street some love.

Manifesting Netflix to turn this list into a binge-worthy series so I don’t have to read a single page.

Every title is dripping with secrets, suspense, and scandal (just how I like my weekends).

Currently curled up with The Housemaid, rain tapping on the windows, and a cuppa going cold because I can’t put the book down. It’s deliciously twisted and I’m here for every bit of it.

When you’re done reading The Housemaid, do post your review — dying to hear your take! I finished it recently and the ending left me speechless (and mildly paranoid about anyone smiling too sweetly 👀).

Honestly, nothing better than a rainy day, a blanket, and a thriller that keeps you questioning everything. Loving your blog, keep ’em coming

    love,

    Em
