Sometimes I daydream about living in a little cottage in Ireland or Germany or the Cotswolds 🏡.. wearing a floral apron, baking cinnamon buns 🍥 while humming Lana Del Rey songs 😂
But in reality?
I’m in my pajamas, burning banana bread again, and not humming but listening to Lana music and wondering if tea counts as dinner. 😂
This very Monday, I went out to watch Final Destination ( Bloodlines ) .. You know.. the one filled with thrill, chaos, and buckets of blood.. My son is still wide-eyed at how his mom can go from watching cottagecore YouTube videos to watching horrific death sequences with popcorn in hand ( he wasn’t allowed due to age restrictions)
To top it off, we’ve also started a Mission: Impossible marathon. We’ve just finished part 3.. only six/seven more to go (plus spinoffs if we go all in). So yes, there’s this whole grandma-meets-spy-thriller energy in my life right now. 🧁🔪🎬
Anyways back to the main subject.. There’s something so charming about the way our grandmothers lived, right?
No phones glued to their palms 📵.. No 27 open tabs in their brains. Just a warm kitchen, a garden that didn’t judge 🌿, and a beautifully slow rhythm to life.
Today, we’ve got ~
robot vacuums 🤖.. grocery apps 📱.. and instant everything yet somehow we’re still tired, overwhelmed, and five minutes behind on life.. 🙃
So what if we took a little inspiration from grandma not the rule-waving, slipper-throwing one, but the pie-baking, herb-growing, story-telling kind and sprinkled some soft, feminine magic into our everyday?
🌸 15 Grandma-Style Hobbies to Soothe the Soul (and Maybe Our Sanity)

1. Baking for Love, Not Likes 🍪
I still fail at baking..
Every. Single. Time. 😅
And yet my little monster (aka my child) devours it like it’s Michelin-starred magic.
Out of love? Or raw courage? I don’t ask.
But burnt bottoms and flour storms aside it’s about joy, not perfection.

2. Bread Making (The Soulful Kind) 🥖
Kneading dough = low-budget therapy.
It’s slow, grounding, and oddly satisfying.
Our grandmas didn’t need gyms they had flour and arm strength. 💪🏽

3. Shopping Like a Real Human 🛒 (Farmer’s Market Vibes Only)
Back in the day, veggies weren’t wrapped in plastic and delivered in 10 minutes by a guy on a scooter.
They were chosen with hands, eyes, and conversations.
Grandma went to the market 👣, chatted with the farmers, picked the juiciest tomatoes 🍅 and carried them home with pride.
Try that once in a while. Skip the app. Go outside. Get lost in the smell of fresh coriander 🌿 and unsolicited life advice from the local chatters next to you.

4. Curating a Cosy Pantry 🫙
One shelf. Pretty jars. Handwritten labels.
Maybe a tin of coffee from your travels. ✨
It’s giving: soft girl meets wholesome homemaker aesthetic. Pinterest, but lived.

5. Gardening, Even in Tiny Spaces 🌱
A balcony, a pot, or a corner of your heart grow something.
It’s grounding, magical, and the plant won’t ghost you. 🪴

6. Preserving Fruits of the Season 🍋
Too many mangoes? Make something out of it ..
Surplus strawberries? Hello, jam.. 🍓
Grandma knew how to make the season last and now you can too (no farm required, just cute jars and a little wonder).
7. Brewing Herbal Teas & Remedies 🍵
Mint for digestion. Chamomile for calm.
Tulsi for everything because grandma said so.

8. Reading : With a Blanket, Not a Timeline 📚
Books don’t send push notifications.
Wrap yourself in a blanket, open that paperback, and escape into a world where people fall in love via handwritten letters. 💌
9. Hosting with Heart 🍽️
It’s not about having a Pinterest-perfect table.
It’s about warmth, intention, and the smell of something homemade in the air.
Dim the lights, light the candles 🕯️ and let laughter do the decorating.
10. Time with Friends (Phones Off, Smiles On) 🧡
A walk. A tea,coffee,latte,juice.. A laugh that makes your belly hurt.
Real friendship is vintage magic. Keep it alive.
(And no, forwarding memes in a group chat doesn’t count.)
11. Knitting, Embroidery, Crochet & Mending 🧵
Actually not my zone of genius.
Tried it once. Ended up tying knots that even Google couldn’t untangle. 🙈
But if you love it rock it. I’ll cheer you on with my third cup of tea and zero envy (maybe just a tiny bit).
12. Collecting Something Beautiful 🕰️
Vintage teacups ☕, handwritten postcards, dainty spoons start a collection that makes your heart skip.
It’s not hoarding. It’s curating joy, one lovely thing at a time.
13. Sewing or Thrifting Feminine Dresses 👗
I adore the aesthetic. I respect the women who do it.
I personally? Admire from a distance like, across the street, waving in leggings & my boring tees ..
But hey, if stitching dreamy dresses or thrifting vintage pieces makes your soul twirl, then darling, twirl away. 💃🏽

14. Handwritten Recipe Journals 📒
Not notes on your phone.. like me 😂 Not screenshots in the abyss of your gallery.
An actual notebook. In your handwriting. With food stains and heart..
One day OUR grandchild will treasure it like it’s sacred. Start now as am going to from next month..
15. Homemaking as a Love Language 🕊️
Let’s stop calling it “just housework.”
Fluff the cushions, light the candle, put on music that makes your soul sway.
Create a home that hugs you back. 🤍
In a world that moves too fast, slow living is a quiet rebellion.
And these “grandma hobbies”?
They’re our soft superpowers. 🦸🏽♀️
You don’t need to master them all just pick one that whispers to your soul. Even ten minutes a day can bring beauty back to the blur..
Let’s bring back soft mornings, warm kitchens, and the kind of love that smells like cardamom and care..
With love and fresh-baked (slightly burnt) cookies🍪,
Dolly
