October Slow Living To-Do ListπŸπŸ‚

By

Cozy Rituals, Festivals & Seasonal Inspiration πŸ‚October has always been my favorite month, but this year I’m leaning into it even more.. it has a special kind of magic. In some corners of the world, trees are dressed in oranges or reds and golds, while in others, the weather quietly shifts.. like cooler nights, softer mornings, and whispers of winter. Wherever you live, October feels like a season of change, comfort, and celebration.

Now, let me share something personal. This year, October feels even more special because I’ve added a little upgrade to my kitchen.. a brand new OTG !! I’ve been waiting so long to bake slow-roasted veggies, soft cakes, and those cookies I’ve always wanted to try.. It feels like the start of a cozy new ritual, the kind that makes this season feel even more grounding and delicious.

It’s also one of the most festive months worldwide. ✨ From Halloween pumpkins in the US and UK, to Diwali lights in India, to Oktoberfest in Germany, Thanksgiving in Canada, and All Saints’ Day across Europe… October is packed with traditions, food, and togetherness. Which also means… indulgence !! Pies, gujias, sweets, beers, laddoos, candies.. you name it. And that’s the joy of this month: celebrating fully while finding balance through slow, intentional living.

Here’s your October Slow Living To-Do List to help you savour the season without rushing through it.

1. πŸ§„ Boost Your Immune System Before the Festivities Begin

October = changing weather + late-night gatherings = sniffles waiting at the door.

Add garlic, ginger, turmeric, and leafy greens to your meals.

Drink soothing teas (ginger-lemon πŸ‹, cinnamon 🌿, or chamomile 🌸).

Keep cosy (yes, socks count as self-care!).

A strong immune system means more energy to enjoy the festivals without crashing.

2. πŸ₯§ Bake or Cook Something Cosy

Nothing says autumn like the smell of something delicious in the oven (or on the stove). Here are a few slow-living favourites:

Apple crumble 🍏 – warm, sweet, and classic.

Pumpkin bread or muffins πŸŽƒ – pure October in a bite.

Chestnut soup 🌰 – perfect for chilly evenings.

Rosemary focaccia 🍞 – simple, rustic, and Italian at heart.

Masala chai spiced cake β˜• – Indian flavours with a global hug.

Creamy kheer (rice pudding) 🍚 .. a Diwali delight to end the day on a sweet note.

Cooking becomes more than food.. it’s a ritual that fills your home with comfort.

3. πŸŽƒ Celebrate Seasonal Produce

Wherever you are, October markets overflow with goodness: pumpkins, pears, squashes, figs, apples, and chestnuts.

In Asia, persimmons are in season; in Italy, roasted chestnuts rule; in the US, apple cider flows. 🍏🌍

Take a basket, visit your local market, and pick what’s fresh.. you’ll feel connected to nature’s rhythm.

4. πŸ₯— Balance Festive Feasting

Between Diwali sweets, Halloween candy, Oktoberfest treats, and hearty Thanksgiving spreads, October can be indulgent (in the best way!).

Slow living doesn’t mean avoiding it.. it means balance. Try this rhythm:

Feast joyfully at celebrations. πŸŽ‰ Reset at home with soups, roasted veggies, or a crisp walnut & cheese salad. πŸ₯¬ Your body will thank you later.

5. 🚢 Go for an Autumn Walk

October air feels different. It might be crisp, foggy, or scented with rain. Wherever you live, step outside. Notice the crunch of leaves 🍁, the glow of lanterns, or just the slower pace of nature preparing for winter.

Walking is the simplest, most grounding slow-living ritual.

6. πŸ•―οΈ Refresh Your Home for Cozy Evenings

This month naturally pulls us indoors. Simple touches make all the difference:

Light autumn-scented candles πŸ•―οΈ (vanilla, cedar, spiced orange).

Add a cosy throw blanket or rug. Place seasonal touches.. mini pumpkins, apples in a bowl, or fairy lights. ✨ Your home becomes your autumn sanctuary.

7. 🌍 Honour Traditions & Festivals Around the World

October is bursting with cultural celebrations. Here are a few highlights:

Halloween (US/UK): carve pumpkins, share candy, watch spooky movies. πŸŽƒπŸ‘» Diwali (India): light diyas, decorate with rangoli, enjoy sweets, and celebrate light over darkness. πŸͺ”βœ¨ Oktoberfest (Germany): enjoy hearty food, music, and raise a toast. πŸ»πŸ¦ƒ All Saints’ Day (Europe): honouring ancestors and loved ones. πŸ™ Chongyang Festival (China): hikes, chrysanthemums, and respect for elders. 🌸 DΓa de los Muertos (Mexico, end of Oct): altars, marigolds, and remembrance. πŸ’

Pick what resonates with you.. or simply appreciate how beautifully diverse the world’s October really is.

8. πŸ“ Reflect & Reset

Just like trees shed their leaves πŸ‚, October invites us to let go. Ask yourself:

What do I want to carry into winter? What can I release before the year ends?

A candle, a notebook, or even a quiet cup of tea is all you need to pause and reset.

🌟 October is a month of contrasts.. candles and candy, indulgence and balance, light and shadow. Whether your evenings glow with jack-o’-lanterns πŸŽƒ, Diwali diyas πŸͺ”, or a simple candle on your table, let this month remind you to slow down, savour, and celebrate.

Because living slowly isn’t about doing less.. it’s about noticing more. ✨ wrapped in autumn coziness ..

✨With Love & Light,

Dolly πŸπŸ‚

Β I’ve been following your blogs for ages now, and I swear they’re like a wee comfort blanket at the end of the day. I’m from Ennis, down here in County Clare, and life’s fairly quiet in our little town. That’s probably why your slow living words hit home so well. I love baking and going for walks along the River Fergus, and I keep a wee decor shop in town myself so your October to-dos feel like they’re written for me. Tried subscribing to your newsletter the other night but couldn’t get it sorted at all (typical me πŸ™ˆ). Still, every time I read your posts, it feels like a chat with a good friend over a cuppaΒ
