Confession time.. I’m glued to my phone. It’s my alarm clock, my distraction, my escape from awkward conversations, and my personal travel agency (courtesy of Instagram reels).
One minute, I’m “just checking one thing,” and the next, I’m deep into videos of tiny bookshops in the Scottish Highlands, imagining my new life there.
If you’re like me and the thought of parting with your phone makes you feel a bit wobbly, don’t panic as I have curated 10 EASY ways to detox ..
Disconnect to Connect : 10 Ways to Reduce Digital Noise & Reclaim Your Life

1. Set Screen-Free Hours (Brace Yourself)
Pick a time to ditch the doomscrolling and actually exist in the real world. I’ve bravely decided my phone goes off from 8 PM to 8 AM. That means I actually focus on my son’s bedtime routine instead of getting lost in Instagram Reels..

2. Mornings Without Technology (Yes, That Means No Scrolling in Bed)
Ever checked your phone first thing and suddenly an hour’s vanished?
Same.. But from last few months I started my mornings early with tea, some light planning (i.e., panicking about my to-do list), and not diving straight into my phone. Revolutionary, I know.
3. Create Tech-Free Zones (Your Phone Does Not Need a Dinner Invitation)
Your dining table should be a place for eating and talking, not a resting spot for your phone. Same with the bedroom—it’s for sleeping, not mindlessly scrolling until your eyeballs hurt. If you must bring your phone to the loo, well… I won’t judge as I can’t poop without my phone..
Don’t JUDGE ME !!

4. Limit Social Media (Because We Don’t Actually Care What Strangers Are Eating)
Instead of endless scrolling, set specific times to check social media. 15 minutes in the morning, 15 in the evening—that’s it. The world will survive without you liking someone’s avocado toast..

5. Engage in Real Conversations (Yes, With Actual Humans)
This one’s tough for me—I’m an introvert, and my phone is my comfort zone. Talking to people in real life? Scary. But I suppose replacing a few texts with actual conversations won’t kill me.
6. Encourage Family Bonding (Or Just Tolerate Each Other Without Screens)
Try something radical: spend time together without devices. Play a board game, cook a meal, or—if you’re feeling bold—have a conversation.
7. Prioritise Outdoor Time (This One’s a Breeze for Me!)
Unlike the rest of this list, this one’s easy—I love walking, and I have to hit 12,000 steps daily (March goals!). So, if you want a screen break, just go outside. You won’t regret it.( Oh !! The IRONY only my phone tracks my steps.)
8. Practise Digital Detox Days (A Whole Day? Let’s Not Get Carried Away…)
The idea of an entire day without my phone? Ha. But maybe a few hours won’t hurt. If you’re a digital detox warrior, go ahead and unplug for a full day. I’ll just cheer you on (while sneakily checking my notifications).
9. Stop Living in Travel Reels or whatever you people are obsessed with
I’m obsessed with travel reels. One minute, I’m watching a cosy cottage in the Lake District or in Cotswold and the next, I’m convinced I live there. Reality? I’m in my living room, in leggings, with cold tea. It’s time to stop imagining and start actually doing things.

10. Embrace Slow Living: Swap Screen Time for Real-Life Moments
Instead of mindlessly scrolling like a zombie, try the wild idea of actually living in the moment. Trade that midnight screen binge for a book you can pretend to read or a cup of tea that doesn’t buzz with notifications. Who knows? Your brain might just RSVP to this radical upgrade.
Unplugging doesn’t mean binning your phone and running off to live in the woods. It just means being a bit more intentional with your time.
Will I suddenly become a Zen, tech-free goddess? Absolutely not.
Will I try? Let’s just say… we’ll see how it goes. If you’re in the same boat, let’s fail or win together—but at least we’ll be failing.. I mean winning consciously..
Now, put your phone down. Or don’t. No judgement. But remember ⬇️
